Dear Representative Raskin,
This letter is to let you know how very disappointed I am in how you are representing me and the other citizens of our Congressional District 8. Specifically, I want to tell you how very unfair I find your one-on-one interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper.
Mr. Tapper asked you, “[w]hy go through the impeachment process?” Your blaming [of President] Donald Trump for the violence of a mob who stormed the Capitol on January 6 was not only appalling, it has also now been proven to be factually incorrect. But I suspect you already know that.
It has been reported that the FBI and the Capitol Police had information of premeditated plans of violence at the Capitol Building at least a day before January 6. How then could President Trump have caused the violence which had already been set in motion before his speech had even been given? There are more important matters Congress should be working on than to impeach Donald Trump. You are simply demonstrating hate.
I was one of the 99% of Trump supporters in D.C. on January 6 who were there to peacefully support the President in a law-abiding way. We were peaceful protestors who exercised our 1st Amendment rights of freedom of assembly and speech. None of us were violent nor were we incited to be violent. [President] Donald Trump did not incite me or my friends. We were practicing our Constitutional rights and were there to celebrate President Trump’s accomplishments.
The inflammatory rhetoric of the Left caused the January 6 mob to storm the Capitol. It is well past time for Democrats and the mainstream media to take responsibility for dividing Americans and attempting to humiliate, silence, get fired from jobs – and perhaps most menacingly of all, talk about “reeducation camps” – for those who support Donald Trump, like me and others who have conservative views. It’s time for careful reflection and change on all sides. You are failing to do this with your impeachment process.
Please make sure you and all the other members of Congress separate the violent offenders from the peaceful American people at a rally. Conservatives should be treated exactly the same as those who attended the BLM rallies throughout 2020.
We demand that the double standards and censorship stop. We demand that the threats to our personal safety and job security stop.
How can our country heal, if you make such poor decisions for the citizens you represent?
Sincerely,
Brigitta Mullican
