Virtual Learning Series: Pediatric Patients & Suicides On The Rise

From Anonymous Working In Howard County General Hospital’s (HCGH) Pediatric Emergency Room (ER).

“I cannot be silent anymore. I work in the HCGH pediatric ER.

Starting last week, our pediatric mental health patients exploded. I know of at least one suicide of a high school student this past week. This is a serious problem. One child in the state of Maryland has died of Covid-19.

One in the whole pandemic!

How many suicides are OK? I am shaking as I write this.

Kids are resilient to a point. You have to open schools. You can do this safely.

You spent a fortune on Chrome books. You could have easily used that money to buy enough PPE [Personal Protective Equipment] for all of the kids and teachers.

Parents, have conversations with your kids NOW. See how they are doing. Check in with your adult friends and neighbors, too.

Suicide is a silent killer.
